Here’s why Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) is a hot topic now

Since the end of last year Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) has been widely discussed as it supports the way in which organisation are currently evolving and digital transformation and remote working models.

Many recent articles explain why SASE is such a hot topic especially now, as many move to working from home models – so we can now officially say, the future of remote work is upon us. to find out more about SASE  visit our Secure Access Service Edge resource centre here.

Over recent months the world has seen large increases in cyber security attacks on both business and private accounts due in part to this large scale move to entire teams working from home.

A recent Forbes article discusses Enablis security partner Mimecast’s latest report about the security impacts of the first 100 days of COVID-19. The report reveals spam and opportunistic detection increased by 26.3%, while impersonation was up 30.3%, malware by 35.16% and the blocking of URL clicks by 55.8%.

As our work styles have changed, the framework and processes for staff to access company data need to be more secure than ever before so that organisations can reduce all levels of security threats and exposure that can affect their brand and bottom line.

Given all these changes, it is now vital that organisations understand how SASE can secure company data in the cloud, as well as the other the key benefits SASE can provide.

Network World stated that “Cloud and SaaS adoption by enterprises has changed network traffic patterns, requiring fundamental change in network and security architectures.”

A recent Network World article commented,” Over the next two to four years, enterprises have the opportunity to strategically plan for a converged architecture that addresses both networking and security: the secure access service edge or SASE (pronounced “sassy”).

It’s important to know that the SASE security framework provides any type of organisation with on-premise and cloud-based services. It delivers a broad range of network and security functionality – including SD-WAN, routing, VPN, firewall, data-loss protection, identity, zero trust and software defined perimeter, all in a unified model.

In a recent Gartner blog SASE was described as “combining network security functions (such as SWG, CASB, FWaaS and ZTNA), with WAN capabilities (i.e., SDWAN) to support the dynamic secure access needs of organisations”.

The advantages of SASE today can be applied to work at home solutions and integrated into an overall SASE-based network/security architecture.

The SASE framework provides organisations with significant benefits in terms of ease of deployment, centralised management and uniform security and compliance. To read a comprehensive list of all the SASE benefits outlined by Gartner in a recent SASE report Titled, “The future of network Security is in the Cloud.”
